What’s the deal between Yahoo and Microsoft?

“What Microsoft wants from Yahoo” is an article I found at SlashDot which presents in depth look into Yahoo-Microsoft deal. Though the article is a bit long but is well-researched and well-written.
A brief summary is “Microsoft doesn’t want to overtake Yahoo. It only wants the adsense patent that yahoo holds so that it can monopolize search industry.” The article also tells how Yahoo got hold of the patent (very shady actually). But the most mysterious is Google. Somehow Google got royalty free licence for adsense from Yahoo. All very intriguing.
